He is best known for his major novels, which are cornerstones of Polish literary realism, and include 'The Outpost' (1886), 'The Doll' (1889), and notably 'The Pharaoh and the Priest' ('Faraon', 1895), a historical novel which stands as one of his crowning achievements.
